I took the Chinese Proficiency Test for the first time this June. The test is really difficult because you have to answer quickly, so you must listen and read quickly and carefully. I only scored 80 that time, so I didn’t pass. When I took the pre-test I scored 93, but I didn’t realize the real test would be much more difficult than the pre-test, so I was really disappointed when I didn’t pass.
I took the test again in September, but I had to think about it for a long time before I decided. Do you know why? I was not confident that I could pass. At the time I was really worried, but my friends and teachers gave me the confidence to take the test again. And then I believed that I could pass it the second time.
I began preparing two weeks before the test. I went to the computer lab on the sixth floor everyday and took the online mock test. Since I was going to take the intermediate level test, I started with the intermediate level. I did the listening comprehension section first. When I finished, I looked at which questions I had missed and then went back and listened again so I knew why I had answered incorrectly. After that, I took the test again and made fewer mistakes than the first time. I did the same for the grammar and reading sections. If there was a character that I did not know I would look it up in the dictionary, and then I could understand that grammar point or the meaning of the article. After working on the intermediate level, I worked in the same way at the basic and advanced level questions. After I had finished, I knew how to face the Chinese Proficiency Test.
The second time I took the test I was not nearly as nervous, because I had confidence. While taking the test, I saw and heard the questions clearly, and I knew that I would pass. My confidence and hopes paid off, because I passed the Intermediate Level 3 exam. I was so happy, and next time I will take the test again, and I hope that I can pass an even higher level. |
